As one of his top priorities, Rodney will work to create an Innovation District in Lee District. By fostering an environment tied to the Historic Richmond Highway Corridor that is attractive to a regionally-based academic institution. Rodney will work to attract an incubator/accelerator that supports the development of emerging technology companies, small scale production entities, or government contracting groups. In turn, this investment will lead to creating new businesses in the Lee District that focus on small scale production and emerging technology businesses. This model will lead to further economic growth by fostering the expansion of supporting industries such as accounting, human resources, financial, retail and other non-technology industries.
The ecosystem that is created by the Innovation District will help catalyze investment and development in the area. As the initial incubator companies outgrow their space, many will relocate to available space along the Historic Richmond Highway, leading to the development of new office space for other small and emerging technology companies.
